Is Native deodorant boycott-friendly? Who owns it, and a boycott-friendly alternative

Short answer: Native is not an independent brand. Procter & Gamble bought Native in November 2017, and it has been a P&G brand ever since. P&G is listed in the Abbott & Keefer boycott directory, which cites its innovation center in Tel Aviv among its reasons. Whether that puts Native on your list is your call. Who owns it is simply a fact.

Who owns the natural deodorants on the shelf

A lot of the brands that look small and independent were bought years ago. This is public record:

  • Native — Procter & Gamble, since 2017. P&G also owns Secret and Old Spice.
  • Schmidt's — Unilever, since 2017. Unilever also owns Dove, Degree and Axe.
  • Dr. Squatch — Unilever agreed to buy it in 2025.
  • Tom's of Maine — Colgate-Palmolive, since 2006.

None of that makes the products bad. It just means the money does not stay with a small company, and if you shop with a boycott list in mind, the parent company is what counts.

What to look for in a boycott-friendly alternative

  1. Independent ownership. Not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with a conglomerate. If a brand cannot say that plainly on its site, assume it cannot.
  2. Where the minerals come from. Magnesium hydroxide does much of the odor work in a natural deodorant. Ask the brand where theirs is sourced. Ours comes from a supplier in the United States, never from Dead Sea by-products.
  3. It has to actually work. Baking soda is one of the most effective natural odor fighters there is. Too much of it stings. A well-balanced formula handles odor in a few swipes and stays gentle on sensitive skin.
  4. Made where, and in what. Made in the USA, in a tube you can feel good about, matters to a lot of people for a lot of reasons.

Where Hurriyah stands

Hurriyah is an independent, US-owned small business. I founded it and I still own it. There is no conglomerate behind it, it is Boycat certified, and there are no Dead Sea minerals in it or anything derived from them. The stick is aluminum-free, balanced for sensitive skin, made in the USA with globally sourced ingredients, vegan and cruelty-free, and it comes in an Eco Smart® plastic tube designed to break down in nature in less than 10 years. Every stick is the same price, 15% comes off when you buy two or more, and U.S. shipping is always free.

Three scents, one formula: Coastal Drift (oceanic and woody), Mountain Air (cool and crisp, the lightest) and Woody Amber (warm amber over soft woods, the longest lasting).
