Is Hurriyah a boycott-friendly deodorant?
Yes. Hurriyah is an independent small business founded and owned by Amir Naviwala. It is not owned by, funded by or affiliated with any multinational conglomerate, and it is Boycat certified. If you shop with the BDS movement or a community boycott list in mind, buying a Hurriyah stick sends nothing to a company on those lists.
Does it contain Dead Sea minerals?
No. There are no Dead Sea minerals in Hurriyah and nothing derived from them. Magnesium hydroxide, the mineral that does much of the odor work in a natural deodorant, comes to us from a supplier in the United States, never from Dead Sea by-products. The stick is made in the USA with globally sourced ingredients.
Who owns the big natural deodorant brands?
Most of the natural deodorants on a drugstore shelf now belong to a handful of very large companies:
- Native was bought by Procter & Gamble in 2017. P&G also owns Secret and Old Spice.
- Schmidt's was bought by Unilever in 2017. Unilever also owns Dove, Degree and Axe, and agreed to buy Dr. Squatch in 2025.
- Tom's of Maine has belonged to Colgate-Palmolive since 2006.
Procter & Gamble is listed in the Abbott & Keefer boycott directory, which cites its innovation center in Tel Aviv. Whether a company belongs on your list is your call. Who owns what is the part we can state as fact, and Hurriyah is owned by nobody but its founder.
Does it actually work?
