If you have ever stood in the deodorant aisle with the Boycat app open, you know the problem. The labels say natural, small batch, clean. The ownership says otherwise. Here is the checklist I use, and what Hurriyah can honestly say against each point.
1. Look up the parent company
The Boycat app and browser extension, the Abbott & Keefer boycott directory and Ethical Consumer's Palestine boycott list all let you search a brand and see who is behind it. Native belongs to Procter & Gamble. Schmidt's, Dove and Degree belong to Unilever, which agreed to buy Dr. Squatch in 2025. Tom's of Maine belongs to Colgate-Palmolive. Hurriyah is independent and US-owned, with no conglomerate behind it, and it is Boycat certified.
2. Ask where the minerals come from
Magnesium hydroxide is the mineral that does much of the odor work in a natural deodorant, and it can be a Dead Sea by-product. Most brands do not say where theirs comes from. Ask. Ours comes from a supplier in the United States, never from Dead Sea by-products. There are no Dead Sea minerals in Hurriyah and nothing derived from them.
3. Make sure it works
A boycott-friendly deodorant that does not work is a bar of soap with a story. Baking soda is one of the most effective natural odor fighters there is, and too much of it stings.
